Message in a bottle

I tried a water scene today. I need some serious lessons on landscapes and clouds.

Pears

This was a study in values, hopefully my teacher would be proud. I think it came out pretty good!

:o)

I'm Lovin it

I really love Pastels, I can do a project quickly and feel like I accomplished something in about 30 minutes. Maybe I should slow down, but if I had my choice it is either instant art or no art. So instant art it is. I do actually think I am getting better...dare I say it. I actually like the bunnies enough to hang them in my home. I love rabbits,,,I have a lot in my home, on dishes, in other paintings. I don't ever think my pastel art will ever be mistaken for a photo. But I do hope it is enjoyed.

Thanks for looking!

Back to the Bird

The bird was a huge disaster, I was ready to throw in the towel. I went back to it today and gave it another shot. It is not too bad for the first bird. Oh what to do next???

Another Rose

I have heard roses are hard, I tried a bird today, but it looks like a lump of bad color choices right now.

I would like for my paintings to not look so defined at the edges of color. I'll have to work on that. This is kind of like a paint by number.

I hope you like it.

Flower Power

Today I was super busy...it started off with a busted pipe in the basement, not good.

Anyway, I still made it to class and we worked on values...excellent... as I am value challenged. I feel better today than I did, as I think I got it! I still have some value choice issues, but I did a lot of paintings today. I love drawing flowers I have discovered. I did 5 paintings today.

Paint Horse

This is a paint horse.

I had a lot of trouble keeping the horse in proportion. This is a large one 11 by 14. Kind of boring as it almost looks like the horse is posing.

Tomorrow I have class. We are doing flowers. Have a good day!

Friday, April 18, 2008

Today I tried a horse, I don't have a lot of pictures to draw so I go on google images and I found this.

I hope you like it, it is pretty small about 4" by 3.5", I am going through paper pretty fast since I have been painting everyday.
I am a doodler and I have been doodleing horses for years, I love drawing horses, so I will do another soon.

Sleeping kitty 2

I did this one late at night, I think I could have done better. I am having trouble deciding to use a dark color or a value. I think I should try a one color cat, so I can simply look at value. I think the sennelier pastels are too soft for me. Those Terry Ludwig ones are calling my name.

I think I'll try a landscape later.

Make a list

I was reading an article on another blog and he said one of the best ways to draw attention to your blog is to make a list.....

Here is a list I made up years ago:

Cotton Candy may just be the perfect food...10 reasons why!

It comes in your favorite color

It is surprisingly low in calories.

It is associated with fun.

It is bigger than your head.

You can eat it with your hands.

It's fluffy.

It comes on a stick.

It tastes great.

It is made of pure sugar.

and the best reason....It is not actually made of cotton.

Today's pastel is brought to you by 2 of my favorite things, kitties and the color purple, this cat is sleeping and I like that too.

Have a good one......

Tax Time

I
hope you all..or y'all as they say here...did your taxes. Today I did 2 paintings, mostly as I didn't like the first one. So then I tried Hydrangias.

I used the techniques I learned in class, but I find my self not having enough colors to choose from. I hear pastels can be an addiction and you never have enough. I can see that already.
If I were to critique myself, I think my paintings need more drama, I think I would add some darker values, especially in the hydrangia.

Have a great day!

Precious

Here is a cute dog names Precious. Precious is such a nice dog. His mommy has another dog that I may paint soon. I hope she likes him.

I used Sennelier and Terry Ludwig pastels. I really want a big set of the Terry Ludwig pastels. I am hoping I'll get them for mothers day! hint hint hint.

Pastel Paint Today

Hello world...I can't believe it, I finally did something constructive. I just started up painting again after a long (20 year) hiatus. That thing called life kept getting in the way.

I am taking a class with an awesome artist named Karen Margulis. I read an article about her in the paper here in Atlanta, she so inspired me that I reached out to her. She was going to teach and I of course signed up. I have had 2 classes and I am hooked on pastels.

If I can figure all this technology out, I will post my art. I am on my way to painting daily.
